Meanwhile, the acting Commissioner for the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Commission, Neroli Holmes, says sexual harassment is “just as common” but has a reported change in its nature.

Around 8,000 protesters walked backwards at King George Square in Brisbane’s CBD on Sunday, August 15, with the rally representing Australia’s politicians attitude to climate change. Organisers of Brisbane’s Walk Against Warming called on the Labor party to make a clear policy in regard to climate change.

Every year the Ekka races draw over 20,000 young people through the gates, and every year a fair amount of them are thrown back out those gates by security. As a result many people have called for more stringent controls of the event and even for its banning. What is it that makes this mid-week race day such a controversial topic? Why is it such a vital date in the calendars of Brisbane’s youth? And most importantly, does it have a future?
