Valley Fiesta brings back Ann Street Party

This year Valley Fiesta sees the return of the Ann Street Party after a three-year absence.

Running three days of free entertainment, Valley Fiesta was held in Brisbane hot spot, Fortitude Valley.

The Ann Street Party returns with shop fronts being transformed for film exhibitions, fashion expos, performances and live music.

Fiesta organiser Scott Maidment, from Strut and Fret, said it is great to have the Ann Street Party back.

“We really liked the concept, so we spoke to a lot of people in the valley and some great artists from Nine Lives Gallery,” he said.

“We said we want to bring back the Ann Street Party and hopefully make it an annual event over the next couple of years.”

Valley Fiesta is a free, not-for-profit, outdoor public event.

Mr Maidment said this year’s highlights include the huge music program across three stages and outdoor Yum Cha in China Town Mall on Sunday.

Producer of What’s On for OurBrisbane.com, Dani Nash, said she’s most excited about the Pyrophone Juggernaut, which kicked off the Fiesta.

“Now this is a fifteen-metre-high, multi-octave fire organ. Basically, the organ shoots flames 50 metres into the air and plays music at the same time,” she said.

60 to 70 thousand people were expected to attend the event over the three days.

Marcus Azon from Sydney’s Jinja Safari – who played at the fiesta – said public festivals, like the Fiesta, are good for giving emerging artists a much broader audience.

“It is a bit of a challenge but it is great opportunity for bands to get out there,” he said.

“To test where they actually are as performers and see how their music will translate to an audience they don’t know.”

This year Valley Fiesta follows Brisbane’s International music conference, Big Sound Summit which wrapped up on Thursday, September 9.
