Brisbane teenagers regularly risk serious injury jumping into an abandoned, water-filled quarry at Mt Gravatt East.

Many teens regularly visit the quarry on Pine Mountain Road seeking thrills as they jump off the 10-metre cliffs into the water below.

Sub-Tropic visited the site to investigate.

Maybe just leave the kids alone, they are not risking injury there unless they are being stupid. Most of the kids there just jump in swim around get out and go again, if you go there and watch them they are all being safe and nothing ba is happenin there. I would like to see the council leave these kids alone. How many injurys have been there in the past year. Hmm 0 if im right how about the year before? Oh 0 again. They are being responsible and not harming them selfs and other. They are simply having fun with friends and making new ones. There is a rope there at the lowest point so when you jump in you can easily get back out. Just leave them be.

But the quarry owners get into heaps of trouble if …. breaks his neck. I can understand why they don’t want anyone in there.

is there any dangerous chemicals in there that could be a health hazard? but yeh its really dangerous

I understand how the quarry could be dangerous.. but so is everything in life!! If they want to take away something that people come together to enjoy because there’s a little risk of getting hurt, then they may as well take away cars, motorbikes, alcohol .. pretty much everything in the world. The risk of having a car accident is way higher than the risk of hurting yourself jumping of the quarry cliffs. If you want to see true Aussies.. go to the quarry on a weekend. Heaps of people swimming, jumping, bringing family, pets, relaxing on the water with their noodles and blow up rafts. That is what Australia is about!! And if they think they will stop us by putting up new fences.. well clearly they don’t last more than a few days. If we want to get in- we will. So go ahead and take away the most Australian environment there is for everyone to enjoy together.. it will just result in people being bored and finding something more reckless to do like driving down the street at high speeds or intoxicated!
