Brisbane’s Kenmore Village will turn 40 next month with the iconic shopping centre planning to celebrate in style.

The shopping centre, which largely operates as a community hub for Brisbane’s Western suburbs, will have a day of celebration on Saturday October 10 to commemorate its 40 years of operation.

The Village’s marketing coordinator, Lyndall Theodore, said the birthday will be a time for families and the community to come together and enjoy the occasion.

“It’s really a chance for people who remember Kenmore Village right back from 1969 to unite and celebrate what it’s become and welcome the future,” she said.

“It is a very special occasion for us so that is why we are having cake, cupcakes and a live cooking demonstration by Geni and Sandra from MasterChef!

“The retailers are all celebrating too and will be serving champagne in store all day as well.”

Owner and founder of Pool Mart Damon Bickle said the occasion is a reminder of how Kenmore Village was the first major centre to accommodate for the Western suburbs.

“When the Village opened in 1969 it was a change for the Kenmore region,” he said.

“It is full of individual owners who work on a first-person basis with their customers.”

Mr Bickle, who is the longest serving retailer in the centre, opened his shop in 1973 and believes it is the community orientated attitude which keeps customers returning to the Village 40-years on.

“Kenmore Village is a friendly and local centre which is an integral make-up of the area,” he said.

“I’m honoured to be a part of the 40th birthday celebrations.”
